2024 New Zealand Secondary School Floorball Cup concludes with exciting matches

The highly anticipated 2024 New Zealand Secondary School Floorball Cup came to a thrilling close on Sunday with exciting matches that demonstrated fair play, talents, sportsmanship, and camaraderie.

With nine schools competing in the Senior Boys’ Division, four schools in the Senior Girls’ Division, and five schools in the Junior Boys’ Division, the tournament showcased the best of floorball within the New Zealand floorball community.

Hutt International Boys’ School took the Junior Boys’ Cup

The finals kicked off with the Junior Boys’ Division as Hutt International Boys’ School faced Rongotai College. The match was exciting to watch and the determination and teamwork of both schools shone through. In the end Hutt International Boy’ School took the Junior Boys’ Cup with their tactical play, exceptional teamwork, and unwavering perseverance, ultimately securing a well-deserved 3-1 victory.

Wellington East Girls’ College took the Senior Girls’ Cup

The finals for the Senior Girls’ Division were a longstanding friendly rivalry between Wellington Girls’ College and Wellington East Girls’ College. Despite numerous attempts at goals, Wellington Girls’ College was unable to break through. Wellington East Girls’ secured their 4-0 win for the Senior Girls’ Cup with their superior teamwork.

Rongotai College took the Senior Boys’ Cup

The final showdown between St Patrick’s College, Silverstream and Rongotai College in the Senior Boys’ Division kept spectators on the edge of their seats and set the standard of fair play for our young floorballers in New Zealand. With unmatched speed and quality of play, both teams demonstrated a high level of teamwork and skills, making for an unforgettable match. Ultimately, Rongotai College, with its experienced players and hunger to win, took the Senior Boys’ Cup with a hard-fought 4-3 win.

We are delighted to announce that the following top three schools have emerged victorious in each of the divisions.

Senior Boys’ Division

First place: Rongotai College

Second place: St Patrick’s College, Silverstream

Third place: Wellington High School

Senior Girls’ Division

First place: Wellington East Girls’ College

Second place: Wellington Girls’ College

Third place: Wellington High School

Junior Boys’ Division

First place: Hutt International Boys’ School

Second place: Rongotai College

Third place: Wellington High School

We would like to thank all the participants, schools and supporters who made this year’s Cup an exceptionally great one to watch. We would also like to express our gratitude and thanks to our organising team and our team of referees who volunteered their time tirelessly to make this a truly memorable floorball event in New Zealand.

Whether you're a seasoned competitor or new to the game, the Floorball Cup promises an opportunity for growth, development, and unforgettable experiences. Join us next year as we once again come together to celebrate the spirit of floorball and showcase the talents of young athletes from across New Zealand.

The 2024 New Zealand Secondary School Floorball Cup was held at Ākau Tangi Sports Centre in Wellington on 23 and 24 March 2024.
