Floorball New Zealand is the national body for floorball, growing the sport across Aotearoa New Zealand through community, competition, and international representation.

  • Floorball New Zealand (FNZ) was set up in 2009 as the National Sports Organisation for Floorball.

    We received full membership with the International Floorball Federation (IFF) in December 2010 and is also a full member of the Asia Oceania Floorball Confederation (AOFC).

    Since 2012 Floorball New Zealand has been represented on the AOFC Central Board.

    In 2012 we became an associate member of the New Zealand Olympic Committee (membership category for non-olympic sports). IFF also received full International Olympic Committee recognition in 2011.

  • As the national governing body for floorball in New Zealand, we:

    • Support and develop clubs nationwide

    • Run national tournaments and events

    • Guide player and coach development at all levels

    • Coordinate New Zealand’s participation in international competitions, including the World Floorball Championships and regional qualifiers

Membership

Becoming a member of Floorball New Zealand connects you to the official floorball community in Aotearoa New Zealand. Membership gives players the chance to represent New Zealand, and allows clubs to host tournaments, access equipment, and have a voice in the development of the sport.

  • Clubs that join Floorball New Zealand gain recognition as official members of the national body.

    Benefits of club membership include:

    • Eligibility to host official tournaments

    • Ability to enter teams into the New Zealand National Championships

    • Loan equipment from FNZ

    • Be represented on the FNZ committee (if elected)

    Club membership categories include:

    • Provisional Club Membership (first 2 years) – $150 per year

    • Full Club Membership – $300 per year

    Our membership cycle runs from 1 January to 31 December.

    Starting a new club? Becoming a provisional member is the first step. You’ll gain access to resources, support, and a pathway toward full membership.

  • All players competing in FNZ-recognised competitions or representing New Zealand must hold a valid Floorball New Zealand player membership through their local club.

    Types of player membership includes:

    • Adult Player (Full) – $40 per year

    • Adult Player (Social) – $1 per year (for social league participation only; does not include competitive benefits)

    • Junior Player (under 18) – $10 per year

    What player membership allows you to do:

    • Enter competitive leagues

    • Compete in the National Championships

    • Participate in international tournaments such as the World Floorball Championships, the AOFC Cup and others.

    • Represent New Zealand on the world stage

    Our player membership cycle runs from 1 January to 31 December.

    International players transferring to NZ: You must register with a Floorball New Zealand affiliated club and hold a full adult membership in order to play in an FNZ recognised league. Players may be registered with international clubs when representing New Zealand internationally.

  • FNZ recognises both permanent (standard) and temporary player transfers between clubs, including international transfers.

    • Temporary Transfers: Temporary transfers are free of charge and allow players to compete in a competition where their current club is not represented.

    • Standard Transfers: A player is allowed one free standard transfer per year. Any additional standard transfers cost $40.

  • 1. How do I join Floorball New Zealand as a player?
    You must register with an FNZ-affiliated club. Your club will lodge your membership with FNZ and collect the player membership fees.

    2. I’m moving to New Zealand from overseas. How do I transfer my membership?
    Apply for a transfer through your current national association your current membership is tied to and register with an FNZ-affiliated club. There is an international transfer form that must be completed by both clubs and IFF before your move is finalised. You’ll need a full adult membership to compete.

    3. Can I upgrade from a social membership to a full membership during the season?
    Yes, you will have to apply through your club to upgrade your player membership.

    4. What happens if I start playing mid-season?
    New players joining during the year do not pay the FNZ fee until they re-register for the next financial year.

    5. Do junior players need parental consent?
    Yes, clubs must obtain parental or guardian consent when registering players under 18.

    6. How do I start a new floorball club in NZ?
    Apply for Provisional Club Membership with FNZ. You’ll receive guidance, resources, and the ability to grow toward full membership status.

Our national teams

Floorball New Zealand supports four national teams:

  • Women’s National Floorball Team

  • Men’s National Floorball Team

  • Women’s U19 Floorball Team

  • Men’s U19 Floorball Team

These teams compete in World Floorball Championships, Asia-Oceania qualifiers, and international friendlies. They are led by experienced coaches, supported by health professionals, and selected through a transparent development pathway.
