Women’s Team announces coaching group for 2025–2027 campaign

We are pleased to welcome Jon To back as Head Coach of the New Zealand Women’s National Team, joined by Assistant Coaches Jordan Boyle and Jussi Tikkanen for the 2025–2027 international campaign.

Together, the coaching group brings a blend of international experience, knowledge of the New Zealand game, and a shared vision for the continued development of women’s floorball in Aotearoa.

Building on momentum

Jon and Jordan were part of the coaching team during the previous international cycle, guiding the team through the 2023 and 2025 Women’s World Floorball Championship qualification campaigns. During that time, the squad showed clear progress in confidence, skill level, and competitiveness against some of the strongest teams in the Asia–Oceania region.

The 2025 qualification tournament in Singapore highlighted that growth, with the team delivering some of its strongest performances yet against regional powerhouses Japan and Thailand. New Zealand remained competitive in every match and came within an overtime goal of achieving its best qualification result to date.

For Jon, the focus of this upcoming campaign is clear — build on that progress while creating an environment where players can thrive.

“We want the team to be competitive on the international stage, but just as importantly we want players to have a positive and supportive experience throughout the campaign.”

A clear identity for the team

Under the new coaching group, the team will continue developing a fast, team-focused style of play built around movement, quick passing, and smart decision-making.

Fitness will also be a key focus. Conditioning will be introduced earlier in the preparation cycle to help players maintain a high pace throughout games and improve the team’s ability to press, recover, and transition quickly.

International experience joins the programme

Joining the coaching staff this campaign is Finnish coach Jussi Tikkanen, who will support the programme remotely from Finland.

Jussi brings experience from one of the world’s leading floorball nations. He played competitively from 1999 to 2025 and began coaching in 2021. He is currently in his second season coaching two women’s teams in Finland, bringing valuable insights from a high-performance floorball environment.

His involvement will strengthen the team’s development and tactical growth.

A strong leadership group

Jordan Boyle continues as Assistant Coach after playing an important role in the previous campaign. His strengths include communication, set-piece development, and game-day management, supported by his experience as both a national team player and team manager.

Together, the three coaches form a leadership group focused on developing players, strengthening team culture, and lifting the performance of the New Zealand women’s programme.
